Eight German students from Bishop Lynch High School competed this past Saturday, Feb. 4th, at the Winterfest North Texas regional German contest, held at R. L. Paschal High School in Fort Worth. This year, 538 German students from 33 high schools throughout North Texas competed in a wide variety of events, including competitions in academic knowledge, arts, and speaking. Bishop Lynch took home six awards, including two 1st place trophies.
Sophomore Noelle Pastor stated, “I really enjoyed Winterfest because it allowed me to compete in a fun, relaxed competition in a category that I really enjoy.” Pastor was awarded 1st place in Photography with her photo entitled Dallas Autobahn.
Students who rank in the top five in Winterfest events advance to the Texas State German Contest, to be held at Texas State University in San Marcos on Saturday, Feb. 25th. The following Bishop Lynch students and events will advance to State:
- Noelle Pastor – Photography – 1st place
- Evan Rosza – Digital Logo Design – 1st place
- Ryan Malin – Poetry Reading, Level 4 – 5th place, and Spelling, Level 4 – 2nd place
- Claire Phillips- Club Album – 3rd place
- Stephanie Hirschbrich – Tshirt Design – 5th
Ryan Malin, who has participated and placed in Winterfest the past two years, said, “Winterfest was a lot of fun for me, and was a great opportunity to get exposure to the German language and its culture.”
