On Thursday, April 20, 2017, Bishop Lynch High School welcomed Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies at Texas Tech University, Dennis Arnette, to make a special delivery to senior Ashton Hurley.
During the presentation, Hurley was notified that he had been admitted to Texas Tech University for the fall of 2017, but more notably, he had also been accepted to the Rawls Business Leaders Program (RBLP) based upon his academic performance, leadership traits and interview. In order to fully emphasize the elite nature of the RBLP, Dean Arnette explained that Ashton is one of only 15 freshmen students from Texas who are accepted into this program on a yearly basis.
The Rawls Business Leadership Program, which was established in fall 2013, creates a dynamic learning experience designed to provide students with real-world knowledge and experiences to excel in leadership roles. The program focuses on developing “complete students” who possess both a strong academic foundation and real-world experience necessary to be an innovative and ethical leader. The four elements of the program include experiential living and learning opportunities, real-world application, international experience, and interactive personal development with a designated professional mentor. While this program is not an independent major, it is designed to enhance one’s learning experience at the Rawls College by providing students the opportunity to participate in action-based leadership activities applicable to all business majors.
We are extremely proud of Ashton and look forward to hearing about his many continued successes in the future!
